What's going on at Tritt.....
*This Wednesday August 29th is Early Release. School will dismiss 2 hours early. ASP will still be often until 6:00 pm. If there is any change in your child's transportation, please let us know with a note. *There is no school next Monday September 3rd. What's going on in 1st grade.... *We started our Monday morning run in the gym today. Students will have the opportunity to run 5 laps in the gym before 7:45 am. *We started homework folders this week. They will go home on Monday and should be returned Friday. There is a reading log that the students will keep in their folders until they are full. We encourage reading 20 minutes every night. This week also included a math practice sheet on numbers and a paper to write and practice learning/saying their home address. *Reading- We continue to work on story elements with read alouds and independent reading. We have been doing character and setting and will now include problem and solution and retelling details from books we read. We will practice with whole group read alouds, listening to reading, and read to self with leveled book choices. In phonics we have been reviewing our short vowel sounds. We have also started learning our diagraphs sh-, ch-, wh-, and th. We will practice with word work activities in our reading journals and small group instruction. *Writing- We have been practicing narrative writing with writing small moment stories that we have done or been a part of. We are learning how to stretch and sound out unknown words to spell and how to use other resources in our writing folders. We continue to practice handwriting and correct sentences with capitalization and punctuation. *Math- We are beginning place value this week. We are learning how to make groups of tens and that two digit numbers have tens and ones. We are using base 10 manipulative blocks as well as pennies and dimes to represent tens and ones. We are focusing on the teen numbers and will build into other numbers. *Social Studies- We are wrapping up our Me on the Map by showing continent, country, state, and city on the map. We are starting our economics unit by talking about scarcity and needs and wants. We are using PebbleGo, BrainPop, and creating a book to learn about these different concepts. *Picture Day is Thursday August 23rd. All students will have their picture taken for the year book. If you would like to order pictures, please return the order form by Thursday. *Friday August 24th is Food Truck Friday from 6:00-8:00 pm. Come out and have dinner with the family and hang out with friends. What's going on in 1st grade...... *Reading- We are beginning to work on our story elements in reading comprehension. We will be looking at character and setting to start with. We will then look at details and talk about beginning, middle, and end. Phonics- We will be reviewing short i and short e in CVC words. We are adding to our word wall and working on different sight words. Daily 5 we have all of the stations up and running. Students are starting to rotate through them with independent and small group practice. Writing- We introduced our Writers Workshop. We kicked it off by talking about small moments in writing and how those are relative to experiences we have. We will talking about coming up with an idea, making a plan, and then writing across the pages. Social Studies- We are continuing on with our study of us on the map. We are making our book and talking about our continent, country, state, and city. Math- We are wrapping up our study of number sense this week. We have been practicing counting objects, writing and recognizing numbers. We are also working on number patterns and grouping objects together to make for easier counting. *Reading- We are learning and practicing different reading strategies independently with our book boxes. We are starting our Daily 5 rotations this week. In phonics, we are reviewing short vowel sounds and how we can tap out sounds and pull them together to read unknown words. *Writing- We are working on what is a sentence? We are learning how sentences need a who and a what to be complete. We are also practicing checking for capitalization at the beginning and punctuation at the end. *Math- We have been working on our numbers to 120- identifying them, writing them, counting objects. We are starting math rotations this week with independent practice, partner games, and small group activities. Social Studies- We are looking at us on the map and talking about our continent, country, state, and city. We are using Pebble Go to learn about these different parts of our world. We will be creating a book title Me on the Map as we explore these concepts. What's going on at Tritt... *TTF fundraiser- last week! We have had a great start to 1st grade! We have enjoyed getting to know each other and learn the procedures of our classroom.
What's going on at Tritt..... *PTA meeting Tuesday August 7th at 6:00 pm. Open House will follow in the classrooms with a session at 6:30 and 7:30 pm. Please remember Open House is for parents only. *Just a reminder to please send in notes for any transportation changes. If last minute changes need to be done, please contact the front office- text or email changes will not be accepted. *The TTF annual fundraiser is currently going on. Please try and support any way you can! The TTF funds Mr. Giunta in our Science lab, updating technology, and funding new STEAM supplies for the school. Please click on order form for information. This week we will begin working on specific procedures and schedules for reading, writing, math, and content areas. We are learning how we will be using our journals and folders in the class as well. Reading- We will be learning the different procedures for our Daily 5. We will be introducing our reading journal and how we will be using it in the classroom. We will be practicing choosing books that are good fits for our book box. We will also be learning reading strategies we can use in the classroom. Writing- We will practicing our writing workshop procedures. We will set up our writing folders and learn how we will use it. We will be working on the narrative genre of writing this 1st quarter. We will also continue to work on handwriting skills. Math- We will be exploring different math manipulatives in the classroom. We will be working on our number sense and exploring numbers to 120. We will be learning some graphing skills- how we can gather information and then use the information to answer questions. Social Studies- We are building our classroom community and how we can be bucket fillers to each other. We will also be learning about the community around us. |
