What's going on at Tritt,,,,
*This week is Exceptional Children's Week. We will be watching a puppet show by the Piccadilly Puppet Theater. They use puppets to tell students about differences and disabilities that young children may have and how they deal with them. *April 3rd- April 7th is Spring Break. There is no school. *We are headed to the ILC this week for a lesson and checkout if your child needs to return any books. *Homework folders should be returned this week. What's going on in 1st grade... *Zoo permission slips went home last week. Please return form and envelope. We will be going to the zoo on April 18th. *STEM- We started a plant STEM challenge last week. We will be creating a plant/ flower that has all the parts of a plant, is a certain height tall, and is free standing. We look forward to creating the challenge! *Math- We are wrapping up measurement this week. We are also working on addition and subtraction and comparing in problem solving. *Reading- We are working on long i vowel teams this week. We are comparing different text that is on the same topic. We will be using nonfiction, fiction, and short passages. *Writing- We are working on different sentence types- telling, asking, and exciting sentences and learning how to use the different punctuation. We are using Mo Willems' books as mentor text for practice (Pigeon, Elephant and Piggie) *Science- We continue our study of plants. We have been working on identifying and labeling the different parts of a plant. This week we will be focusing on the needs of plants. Happy 1st day of Spring!!
What's going on at Tritt... *Note from the Counseling department: Come join us!! Growth Mindsets: Tuesday, March 21 @ 6PM Our Tritt counseling team will discuss a program they are implementing during their counseling lessons in the classrooms and ways parents can support it at home. The presentation will give parents an overview of the Growth Mindset Theory, resources for parents and an interactive experience with a sample student lesson. *Field day shirt orders due Friday March 24th. What's going on in 1st grade... *Reading- We continue to work on vowel teams. We have introduced -ai, -ay, -ee, -ea. We are working on reading words with these vowel teams as well as reading them in sentences and passages. We are beginning to work on comparing different books on the same topic. We are practicing our retelling and identifying main idea and details. *Writing- We will be reviewing all of our genres of writing this quarter: narrative, informational, and opinion. We will be really working on adding details to our sentences, fine tuning handwriting, self checking for letter reversals, capitalization, and punctuation. We will also be learning about different types of sentences: telling, asking, exclamatory and the different punctuation used. *Math- We are working on measurement this week. Being able to compare different objects in length. We are also using nonstandard objects to measure i.e. cues, markers, erasers, etc. *Science- We are working on plants in science. We are talking about the different parts of a plant and what plants need to grow. *STEM- We will be doing a plant STEM challenge this week. **Report cards will be going home Thursday. Please keep your copy and sign and return the envelope. **Zoo field trip permission slip forms will also be going home on Thursday. Please sign and return. What's going on at Tritt.....
*Tonight is Chick-fil-A night hosted by Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers and parapros 5:00-8:00 pm at the Woodlawn location. Make sure to mention Tritt. *Biscuit day is this Thursday. Students may purchase a Chick-fil-A biscuit in the morning. This is a 5th grade activities fundraiser. What's going on in 1st grade... *We have our pajama day/stuffed animal day tomorrow. Students may bring slippers to wear while in the classroom, but please make sure they have other shoes to walk around in. *Wednesday we will be going to the ILC. Please have your child return books if they have them. *Reading- We continue to review silent-e long vowel words as well as practice new vowel teams. We have been working on long a- with -ai and -ay. We will also be doing long e- ea and -ee. We are working on point of view with our reading this week. We are learning about the narrator and 1st person. We are also reading texts with different points of view from different characters. *Writing/Language Arts- We have been working on past and present verbs. We have been writing complete sentences and checking for capitalization and punctuation. We are also wrapping up our opinion writing. We have been working hard on opening and closing sentences. *Math- We are working on adding and subtracting multiples of ten. We are working on problem solving and explaining our math thinking. We have been practicing addition and subtraction math fact fluency by playing different games: Math Dash, Sum Swamp, Splat, and Bus Stop. *Social Studies- We are wrapping up our study of Harriet Tubman. We had a great time doing rotations last week and reading books, watching books, and learning about different symbols related to her. *STEM- This week we will be working on our engineering skills and creating leprechaun traps in the classroom. We are going to brainstorm on Tuesday to see if there are any materials we may have around the classroom or house that we can use in our challenge on Friday. *We had a great Dr. Seuss week last week! What's going on at Tritt... *Tuesday is picture day. We will be taking a class picture and individual pictures will be taken based on order forms. *Wednesday is Walk to school day! There are several locations where teachers will be walking/riding bikes from. Please participate if you can:) *Next Monday is Chick-fil-A night. It will be hosted by K and 1st teachers. I will be there around 7:00 pm. *Book Fair is going on this week. Monday and Tuesday 7:20-7:50 am and 2:30-6:00 pm, Wednesday and Thursday 7:20-7:50 am and 2:30-4:00 pm. What's going on in 1st...... *Reading- We are working on story elements- retelling details from stories we read and listen to. We are also beginning point of view- who is telling the story. We are beginning vowel teams in phonics-ay, -ai. *Math- We continue to practice 10 more/10 less. We are introducing multiples of ten i.e. 15+20=35, 35-20=15. We are using the 120 chart as a strategy as well as mental math adding and taking away tens. *Writing/Grammar- We are working on present and past tense with verbs. We are working on using them correctly to make sentences that make sense. We continue to work on opinion writing with opening and closing sentences, as well as capitalization and punctuation. *Social Studies- We are learning about Harriet Tubman as our American Hero this week. We are doing rotations between the 1st grade classrooms. Students will rotate between the classes learning different lessons about Harriet Tubman. *STEM- We are wrapping up our Shadow STEM challenge by performing our different puppet shows for each other. Wee have been practicing and are ready to perform. |
