What's going on at Tritt...
*This Thursday night is the Art show and chorus concert. If you wish to purchase your child's framed art, you can return the Art order form by Thursday or purchase at the Art show that night. The Art show will be in the gym. *Friday is Arts and Education Day. We will be participating in different arts activities such as music, dance, pottery, puppet show, juggling, magician, etc. We will be eating in the classroom that day and our schedule will be different. *Next Tuesday May 2nd is our STEM showcase day from 8:30-11:00 am. *Next week is the Book Swap. CLEAN OUT THE BOOK SHELVES Service Council Summer Book Swap is coming... It is a good time to clean out your children’s book shelves before more are added over the summer. Please set aside the GOOD CONDITION but unwanted books for the Service Council Summer Book Swap and Labelle Elementary Book Drive! For every 2 books they donate students will receive 1 ticket. Each ticket can be used to get one “new” book. At the end of the week any books not selected will be donated to LaBelle Elementary to build their teacher lending libraries. This is a fun cause and teaches our children about kindness and service by recycling their already read books, helping others, and getting “new” free books at the same time. **We are unable to accept donations for books that are either preschool reading level, religious, sticker, small chick-fil-a books or adult genre. Dates: May 1st-5th- Gently used book drop off- For every 2 books donated students will receive 1 ticket. May 8th- 12th - Students can redeem tickets for “new” books for summer reading enjoyment. Thank you for your support! Tritt Elementary Service Council *Week of May 8th is the last school store of the year. *May 9th is the staff/parent softball game to benefit the Rally foundation. I sent home a ticket order form or tickets may be purchased the day of the game. *Field day is Friday May 12th. K-2 is from 9:00-11:00 am. What's going on in 1st grade... *This Wednesday we will be attending a play here at school for our performing arts. We will be watching James and the Giant Peach. *Next Friday, May 5th, is our Author's celebration in the classroom. We invite you to join us from 7:30-8:30 am. You will have the chance to look at our writing throughout the year and have refreshments. That Friday is All Pro Dads breakfast, so please wait to arrive as close to 7:30 as possible. *Friday May 12th is Tiger Town for 1st grade. *Reading- We continue to work on reading and spelling words with long vowel teams and long vowel words with the magic e. We are working on identifying similarities and differences between two texts on the same topic. *Writing- We have been practicing recognizing and using conjunctions in our writing. We are using different animal books this week to practice our opinion writing. *Math- We are wrapping up 2D and 3D shapes. We have been creating new shapes with these shapes as well as using attributes to describe and identify shapes. *Science- We have begun our study of animals. We are learning about the needs of animals and characteristics we can use to identify and sort animals into different groups. *STEM- This week we are doing a STEM challenge where we are researching an animal that we think should be in the Atlanta Zoo. We will create a habitat and the animal with our groups. *Next week our STEM challenge will focus on our observations of the Berry College eagles and how we can create a paper eagle that can glide the farthest. Thank you for your support! Tritt Elementary Service Council *Canned food drive! The Braves are organizing a canned food drive this week to kick off their opening of the new stadium. They are asking for all Cobb County schools to participate. Please bring in canned foods all this week. We will be delivering them on behalf of the Braves. All proceeds to benefit M.U.S.T. ministries! *Donut day this Thursday April 13th! All proceeds to benefit the RALLY foundation. *Arts in Education day Friday April 28th. We will attend different arts related activities throughout the day- dance, painting, puppets, juggling, music, etc.. What's going on in 1st grade... *Field trip permission forms to the zoo are due tomorrow. Please let me know if you need another one for your child:) Field trip is next Tuesday April 18th. I will be sending home information to chaperones later this week. *Author's celebration Save the Date reminder! Friday May 5th 7:30 am-8:30 am. *Save the Date- volunteers needed! Friday May 12th Tiger Town. More information to come, but volunteers needed to help set up, run, and clean up our snack shop from 9:30-11:30 am. *Performing Arts play at school Wednesday April 26th 8:30-9:30 am. We will be watching 'James and the Giant Peach'. We already did permission slips and donations at the beginning of the year, so nothing else needed. **Reading- We continue to work on vowel teams and this week we are working on long o teams- oa and -ow. We continue to review other vowel teams with Scoot games and some spelling practice. We are working on using pictures and or text to answer questions through reading passages and Scholastic magazines. **Writing- We are reviewing narrative writing this week and next by writing about our Spring Break and our zoo field trip. We will also be introducing conjunctions- and, but, so, or, because. **Science/Social Studies- We are wrapping up our study of plant parts and what plants need. We will be going into our next American Hero- George Washington Carver, who was called 'the plant doctor'. **Math- We are beginning our study of shapes. We are working on 3D/ solid shapes this week and will then review plane/flat shapes next week and how we can use shapes to create other shapes and pictures. Please see homework choice board for a must do assignment for shapes due Friday. **STEM- We will be doing a STEM challenge related to shapes and we will be finishing up our Plant STEM challenge. |
