Welcome back!!! I hope everyone had a great winter break:) I know the weather is starting to act more like Spring. We are celebrating Dr. Seuss all this week. I am listing below the different activities going on this week.
Monday- Cat in the Hat Day : Wear Favorite Hat Tuesday- Fox and Socks Day: Wear CRAZY socks Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday- Wacky/Mix-matched clothes and wacky hair if you want Thursday- Cozy Up with your favorite Dr. Seuss Book: Wear PJs for $1 and bring favorite Dr. Seuss book ($ to benefit Rally foundation) Friday- Thing 1 and Thing 2 Day: Kind is the New Cool shirt (Whole School Twinning) or grade level color What's going on at Tritt.......... *Celebrate Dr. Seuss week Monday-Friday *Math Night is Thursday from 5pm-7pm at Publix on Shallowford. The manager there is doing some great things including having some birthday cake for our math nighters as they are walking around doing their math. For parents they are doing some shopping sales that night as well: Buy a Rotisserie chicken and get a free popcorn chicken Buy a Mixed fried chicken and get a free popcorn chicken Buy a Whole sub and get a free popcorn chicken We will be hiding a cat in the hat through the store for special prizes as well. If a student completes math night and brings the completed sheet in on Friday that is their homework pass for Thursday night. *Spring Book Fair is next week Monday-Thursday. *Spring Picture Day is Tuesday March 7th. We will be taking a class picture. Individual pictures will only be taken if an order form is sent in. *Sweets and Swaps is Friday March 10th for K-2nd graders 6:00-7:00 pm. *Tritt Trot is Saturday March 11th. What's going on in 1st grade... *ILC lesson and checkout Tuesday February 28th *Reading- We are using Dr. Seuss books this week to work on central message. We are practicing long vowel words with the silent 'e' as well as beginning to look at vowel teams in long vowel words. *Writing- We are practicing using correct suffixes with subject and verb agreement. We also continue to work on opening and closing sentences in opinion writing. *Math- We are working on doing ten more and ten less/ one more and one less. We will also be looking at adding multiples of 10. (i.e. 10+30= 40). We continue to work on problem solving and explaining our thinking when showing our strategy. *Social Studies- We will be introducing Harritet Tubman as our next American Hero. We will be doing rotations next week to learn about why she is an American Hero. *S.T.E.M.- We are wrapping up our shadow STEM challenge this week. We have already been working on creating the shadow puppets and will now write a script that the groups will perform for each other. What's going on at Tritt......
*School store is open every morning this week from 7:20-7:50 am. *Kindness week is going on this week. We kicked it off by watching a play done by a group of 4th graders. We learned about the golden rule- "Treat others the way you would like to be treated" Thursday we will have Mix it Up day at lunch- We are asking students to wear Tritt spirit wear or Kind is the New Cool shirts this day. *Winter break is next week. There will be no school. Please return homework folders after break. What's going on in 1st grade.. *Please bring valentines and valentine boxes on Tuesday. We will be delivering valentines to each other. *Math- We will be working on ten more and ten less this week. We will be using the 120 chart and mental strategies with this. *Reading- We are working on spelling silent 'e' long vowel words and reading them in passages. We also continue to work on central message with our comprehension skills. *Science- This week we are working on muscles. We are learning different muscles we have and what they are used to do. *Writing- We are working on some handwriting skills and checking for capitalization and punctuation. We are also using the book A Pig Parade is a Terrible Idea for opinion writing this week. We continue to work on plural nouns and learning different suffixes. What's going on at Tritt...
*Thursday is Donut day. Students may purchase a donut Thursday morning in the cafeteria. All proceeds to benefit the Rally Foundation! *Ident-A-Kid being done for students. Order forms are going home Monday. If you would like this done for your child, please return by Thursday. *School dance is Friday February 10th. K-1 session is from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm. Concessions will be sold. Tickets are $3 online through Tuesday or $4 at the door on Friday. The theme is Hollywood. Wear your best Hollywood attire. I hope to see everyone there:) *Next week the school store is open in Room 611 from 7:20 am-7:50 am each morning. *Read to Succeed reading logs need to be turned in by Friday February 10th. What's going on in 1st grade... *Homework reminder- The new homework choice board I have been doing can be done throughout the whole month of February. Students are required to do 6, but may do as many as they like. Please return homework folders by Monday February 27th. Remember to read each night. *Please have students bring in their Valentines' box and valentines by Tuesday February 14th next week. We will exchange them that day. *Reading- We are working on central message with our reading comprehension. Central message is the lesson that the author is trying to teach us. For example, last week we read Swimmy and we learned that working in a group can help you get things done easier. We continue to work on reading long vowel words with the silent 'e',. We have been doing long a, i, and o. We will now be working on u and e. *Math- We will continue working on missing addend this week, especially doing addition and subtraction. We are using word problems to practice this as well. We are reviewing place value and talking about tens and ones in our two digit numbers as we get ready to start adding multiples of ten. Science- We are continuing on with light and shadow in science. We are doing experiments and talking about sources of light as well as how shadows are made. Writing/Language Arts- We continue to work on opinion writing. We are focusing this week on writing complete sentences. We are also working on our opening and closing sentences. We are also working on suffixes- s, -es, -ed, and -ing. We are making sure that a sentence makes sense with our nouns and verbs. |
