*National Field Day Friday May 8th- please see attached letter for info *Student belongings pickup- as I hope you all have all heard Thursday May 7th they have created a schedule for student belongings to be picked up by one adult. Please see the Tritt website for the schedule and procedural directions. I am going in Monday afternoon and will be gathering everyone’s stuff from chair packs, walls and placing in large plastic bags. I do suggest maybe bringing a bag with you Thursday, since I am not sure of the sturdiness of the bags. I will have bags labeled with your child’s name and have them in ABC order outside of the classroom. Please let me know if you any additional questions. What’s going on in 1st grade this week…. *Reading- We will be practice reading comprehension and reading fluency with some individual passages a d questions to go with them. *Grammar- We will continue practice working on capitalization and punctuation as well as spelling of red words we have done. *Writing- We will be doing opinion writing this week for Mother’s Day. *Math- We will be doing addition and subtraction math fact practice as well as word problems. *Content- We are done with our science and social studies standards for the year, so I may assign just some fun, extra things for students to do. What’s going on at Tritt…..
*Next Friday May 8th Tritt is participating in National Field Day. Attached is a letter with information from Mrs. Smarr and Mr. Theriault. What’s going on in 1st grade…….. *Reading: We are working on story elements this week- character, setting, problem, solution, and retelling details from beginning, middle, and end. We will also be working on reading comprehension- using reading passages independently and answering questions. *Writing/Grammar: This week we will be working on opinion writing. Students will do a spring opinion writing where they give their opinion, reasons why, and a closing. We will also be reviewing capitalization and punctuation rules and practicing fixing mistakes in sentences. When students work on the sentence editing assignments, I really want them to focus on writing/typing the sentences correctly. These assignments will be on Seesaw this week, but I will always attach a hard copy even if they just use it as a guide and just rewrite the sentences on a piece of paper and upload. It is a great chance for them to really practice their handwriting too. *Math: This week we will be reviewing 10 more and 10 less as students will be practicing adding and subtracting multiples of 10. *STEAM: On Tuesday I will post a plant STEAM challenge that students will be able to work on throughout the week and submit by Friday. They will be using their prior knowledge of plant needs and plant parts for this challenge. *Phonics: We are continuing with long a vowel teams this week by doing -ay words. We will also review both -ai and -ay words in reading as well. Optional Scavenger Hunts:
Indoor scavenger hunt Backyard scavenger hunt 5 senses scavenger hunt Book scavenger hunt Math scavenger hunt Rainbow scavenger hunt Spring scavenger hunt This week at Tritt…… *Don't forget to check out the specialists' pages for updated activities This week in 1st grade……
I hope you all were able to have a relaxing Spring Break!
As you have seen from the district we are going to a Monday-Thursday digital learning schedule with Friday being a catch up day for students and planning for teachers. I plan on continuing with daily assignments as I have been doing. No new assignments will be given on Friday, but will allow for students to catch up and me to touch base as needed. I will work on specifics for that day as I am given more information. One thing I do plan on doing this week is small group Zoom meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. This week I am going to meet with table groups so I will send out information later Monday regarding day and time for your child. This week in 1st grade……. *Reading- We will continue to work on making connections specifically cause and effect. As students are doing independent reading, encourage them to see any connections they make with pictures or words in their text. *Math- We will be doing partioning with shapes. Students will hear the vocabulary whole, halves, and fourths. We will also tie in real world connections. *Writing- Students will be doing a small moment narrative writing from their Spring Break. We will use an organizer to organize ideas and work on writing complete sentences. We will also be reviewing parts of speech that we have worked on this year- nouns, verbs, and adjectives. *Social Studies- We will be learning about our last American Hero, Ruby Bridges. We will learn reasons she is an important American, character traits to describe her, and ways her life is similar to and different from our lives now. I wanted to thank you all for your support the past couple of weeks. I know this isn't our ideal situation but I appreciate your help as we power on!
