Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing break! Looking forward to the next few weeks as we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, Math night at Publix, St. Patrick's Day and lots of learning:)
What's going on at Tritt... *Thursday March 1st is Tritt's Math night at Publix from 6:00-8:00pm. Students may come out and solve real world grade level math problems using products at Publix. There are also some other extra activities going on that night. *Friday March 2nd is Read Across America day in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. Tritt will have a school wide pajama day. What's going on in 1st grade... *Return homework folders by Tuesday February 27th. *We are celebrating Dr. Seuss this week by reading and using Dr. Seuss books in math, reading, and writing. Please have your child bring in a favorite Dr. Seuss that they may have at home any time this week. We will keep them in our book boxes throughout the week. *Reading- We are working on central message this week. We are using different Kevin Henkes' books to find out lessons the author is trying to teach us. We are also using Dr. Seuss to understand this comprehension skill. We will continue to practice comparing and contrasting adventures and characters in small group and independent practice. In phonics we have been working on long vowels. We started by practicing 'magic e' or 'bossy e' words. We are now working on vowel teams. We started with long a teams such as -ai and -ay. *Writing- We are wrapping up writing our own Tacky books. We will continue to work on opinion writing by doing book reviews of favorite Dr. Seuss books. We are also working on singular and plural nouns. *Science/STEM- We are wrapping up our study of light and shadows by completing our STEM project of creating shadow puppets and a Kindness shadow puppet play. We are implementing the arts as well with creative movement and drama in our projects. *Math- We continue to work on addition and subtraction strategies in problem solving. We have been working on ten more/ten less, one more/one less. We will continue to practice this strategies as we go forward with adding and subtracting multiples of ten (ex. 20+30=50, 70-20=50). What's going on at Tritt...... *School store is open this week Monday- Friday 7:20am-7:55am each morning. Students may purchase small items from the store. All proceeds to benefit the Rally foundation. *School dance is this Friday February 9th. The K-1 session is from 6:00pm-7:00pm. We have been practicing our dances in PE. The theme is Disney. The whole family is invited. Tickets will be available at the door. Looking forward to seeing everyone if you can make it. What's going on in 1st grade... *We will be celebrating Valentine's Day this year on Tuesday February 13th by exchanging valentines. Please check homework folders for details. *Read to Succeed reading logs are due Friday February 16th if you are participating. *Reading- We have comparing adventures in different books. We have been using Tacky books this past week to compare. We will continue with some Tacky books this week and a few other comparisons. We have also been working on short and long vowels. We have learning about the bossy 'e' and how it makes vowels say their names. We will continue to look at bossy e words and then move into vowel teams. *Math- We have been working on comparing numbers. We have learned the symbols we use ( <, >, and =) for greater than, less than, and equal. We will begin working on numbers in our 120 chart and doing ten more, ten less, one more and one less. We continue to practice addition and subtraction math fact fluency with games in math centers. *Science- We have started learning about lights and shadows. We had a good kickoff celebrating Groundhog's day Friday. *Writing- We have been working on opinion writing. We used our collection bags to kick off talking about a collection we have and why we have it. We also picked a "winner" out of our collection and wrote about why it was best. We wrote about a favorite pet and then gave our opinion with the book Hey Little Ant. We will be writing about our favorite Tacky book this week and giving reasons for our opinion. |
