We are starting our digital learning today! I have sent detailed information through email. I will post daily assignments through email as well as through See Saw. If you have any questions, problems please reach out. My daily office hours are 9:00-10:30. I can be reached through email and I will be commenting on work submitted through See Saw. This week at Tritt…. *Report cards will be posted Friday March 20th at 12:00 pm. You will access to report cards through your Parent Vue account. Please let me know if you have lost your access or have any technical problems accessing on Friday. This week in 1st grade..... *Reading- We will be working on learning information through picture and text. For this standard we will be using a lot of nonfiction text. I encourage students to read nonfiction books and/or listen/read to nonfiction books on BookFlix and Tumble Books. We also have access to Pebble Go and TrueFlix through Cobb Digital library. These are just a few resources we have access to. *Math- We are starting our unit on shapes. We will be starting with 2D (plane) shapes this week and then 3D shapes. We will learning how to draw, build, and identify shapes using defining and non-defining attributes. Some new vocabulary: Attributes- describing words, phrases we can use to sort and classify shapes. Vertices- corners *Writing- We will be doing informational writing this week. We will be using research we have already done as well as new research on animals. We will tying in our animal unit from Science- being able to tell the basic needs of animals: air, food, shelter, water. We will be working on gathering research, then writing complete sentences for opening, facts, and closing. Students will also get the opportunity to draw, label, and read their writing. *Social Studies- We will be introducing our next American hero this week: George Washington Carver. We will see how he is famous to America. We will also be reviewing a lot of information about plants that we have doing throughout the whole year:) since he is considered "the plant doctor". *Science- We will continue on with animals: their basic needs and ways we can classify them into groups. What’s going on at Tritt………. *Field day t shirt orders are due by Friday March 6th. 1st grade’s color is lime green. *Tritt Trot is this Saturday March 7th. *Book fair is this week Monday- Thursday. Monday and Tuesday 7:20-7:55 and 2:30-6:00 Wednesday and Thursday 7:20-7:55 and 2:30-4:00 *Lunch visitor reminders- We love to have you come in and eat with your child. Reminder to sit at the overflow tables (not the class tables) with your child only. What’s going on in 1st grade…. *Zoo permission slips went home Monday. Please make sure to fill out both sides and return by March 11th. *Friday is Teddy bear Friday to wrap up Teddy Roosevelt. Students may bring a stuffed teddy, picture, or drawing of a Teddy bear. *Reading- We are reviewing our comprehension skills using Dr. Seuss books this week. We are comparing characters and experiences, we are finding the central message, we are practicing point of view, and we are reviewing story elements. *Writing- We are using ‘What if I had animal’ books to give our opinion. We are also doing animal research and practicing informational writing as we talk about animal needs. *Social Studies/Science- We continue to learn about Teddy Roosevelt. We are also reviewing landforms as we learn about places Teddy Roosevelt visited. We are learning about Teddy’s love of nature and animals. We are learning about animals and their basic needs. *Math- We are working on subtracting multiples of ten. We also continue to work on adding 2 digit and 1 digit numbers. We are also practicing strategies in word problems. We were lucky to have a former student come read to us on Read Across America day!! Thank you Carter! This week at Tritt……
*Yearbooks are still on sale online through March 17th. *Tritt Trott is Saturday March 7th. *Next week is the Spring book fair! This week in 1st grade…. *Reading- We are wrapping up point of view. We will be reviewing central message and comparing and contrasting stories as well. We have been practicing reading books that we will be reading to our 5th grade buddies on Wednesday. *Phonics- We continue to practice magic e and are practicing reading and spelling words that follow our magic e patterns. We are also spelling words with blends and diagraphs. *Writing- We continue to practice opinion writing. We have been practicing giving our opinion, giving reasons to support, and then restating our opinion as a closing. We are using ‘What if I had…’ animal books this week to do some fun opinions. *Math- We continue to work on adding multiples of ten. We are also adding 2 digit and 1 digit numbers. We are using mental math, 120 chart, drawing tens and ones, and using tens and ones blocks as strategies to help us. *Social Studies- We are learning about Theodore Roosevelt. We are learning important facts that make him an American Hero and character traits that describe him. We are also learning about his love of nature and animals and are tying in landforms and animal research as well. It was so fun to see so many of you at the glow party Friday night! What a great time it was:)

That was a fun little winter surprise:) What's going on at Tritt.... *Yearbooks are still on sale through the website for $30 through the end of March. *Exceptional Children's Week is this week. Our own Taylor Nighbert will be doing a presentation on being deaf and having cochlear implants. *Spring picture day is Thursday February 13th! Individual pictures will be taken only for those who pre-order with the form or online. This will be our class picture day! *Next week is Winter Break and there is no school February 17th-21st. What's going on in 1st.... ***Save the Date!!!! We will be attending the Atlanta Zoo on Wednesday April 1st. We will be sending home permission slips and more detailed information at the beginning of March. If you are interested in being a chaperone we are happy to have you! Chaperones meet us down at the zoo gate and no younger siblings are able to attend. More information to come.... *Valentine's Day exchange- We will be exchanging valentines within our class on Friday February 14th. Please remember to bring in boxes and valentines by then. *Reading- We are starting to talk about point of view in stories. We are learning that stories may be told from the point of view of characters or through the narrator. We are also learning words that help us recognize the point of view it is from. *Phonics- We are doing magic e this week. We are learning how magic e can jump over a consonant and make the first vowel it comes to say its long name. *Math- We are continuing on with ten more by now talking about adding multiples of ten. We are using tens and ones blocks as a strategy as well as the 120 as we go towards mental math. *Writing/Grammar: We are using 'What if I had ......' animal books to give our opinion and reasons why we like the animal We also continue on with recognizing and using present, past, and future tense verbs in sentences. We are using our suffixes -ing, -ed, and -s. *Social Studies- We are wrapping up continents, oceans, and landforms. We had great rotations last week so we are practicing recognizing and being able to label where continents and oceans are. We are also practicing how to describe and draw different landforms. World Read Aloud Day February 5th *We had a great time celebrating World Read Aloud Day with Mrs. Dino's 5th graders last week! What's going on at Tritt….

The K and 1st grade session is 6:00-7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased online and then at the door. *Next Thursday February 13th is Spring picture day! Individual photos will only be taken if there is an order form submitted by that date. Our class photo will be taken. *Winter Break is February 17th-21st! We will be working on reading and spelling words that follow this rule. *Writing- We are practicing using singular and plural nouns in complete sentences. We are also working on verb tenses: present, past, and future and using the correct suffixes. We also continue to work on our opinion writing- stating an opinion, giving reasons, and a closing. *Math- We are working on finding ten more and ten less with numbers. We are also starting to look at equations and being able to add multiples of ten. *Social Studies- We are doing rotations this week as we learn about continents, oceans, and land forms. Each 1st grade teacher is teaching a different continent and including animals, land forms, weather, and other fun facts about the continent. Our class will travel to each room this week as we work on a book with our new facts. What’s going on at Tritt….. *Kindergarten through 5th grade students, are you excited about the STRONG4LIFE program here at Tritt. The Wellness Committee is promoting a poster contest to showcase your art and creativity. See the attached Poster Contest form for more information. Top two posters chosen from each grade level will have the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast with Tritt Administration. Can’t wait to see your posters! *This Thursday January 30th is the Tritt Talent Show. It is at 6:00 pm at Pope Theater. Admission is free. Come out and see students and staff perform! *Next Friday February 7th is the Tritt family dance. The theme is Glow party. K and 1st grade time is 6:00-7:00 pm. Tickets may be bought online or at the door. *The week of February 10th is Exceptional Children’s Week. *Thursday February 13th is Spring Picture Day. What’s going on in 1st grade…… *LLC Friday February 7th *Reading: We continue to work on Central Message. We have been using mentor texts, partner passages, and independent passages to work on identifying central message. *Writing: We continue to work on opinion writing. We are learning how to state our opinion, give reasons, and restate our opinion as a closing. We are also working on giving examples of our reasons this week. We have been reading books that are trying to persuade or just telling us about their opinion. *Phonics: We have reviewed our suffixes and welded sounds this week. We are also talking about closed and open syllable rules. We are starting magic ‘e’ soon. *Math: We are beginning to talk about ten more/ten less and one more/one less and how we can use our 100 or 120 charts as a strategy. This will lead us into adding multiples of ten. *STEAM: We are using weather data to create a graph. We will use the graph to talk about how the weather may have impacted our garden bed. We are also creating a mural using some art pieces that we did in Art with Mrs. McFerrin. These pieces depict what are beets are supposed to have been doing underground during this planting cycle. We are going to talk about how other factors may have impacted our growth and what our next steps should be. *We will be exchanging valentines in a couple of weeks. Information regarding boxes and our class list will come home next week. We also included it on our homework calendar for February. Hi Everyone!
Welcome back😊 It was great to see everyone today and hear about the break. I am looking forward to a great second half of our school year! What’s going on at Tritt…. *PTA heroes essays are due to the LLC by January 17th for those who are interested in participating. Specific information can be found on the PTA page. *Talent show applications are due by January 10th. Tryouts will be on January 15th and the Talent Show is January 30th. *FAST classes: FAST classes begin January 13th. Just a reminder that you can send in a note for your child on the first day with what class and dismissal afterwards and I will keep for the semester. What’s going on in 1st grade…. *HW folders are coming home today. They will be due on Friday each week. Just a reminder to make sure students are doing things we have talked about or learned about. There is one HW activity that suggests a free app called Geography Master. This is not a requirement, just a suggestion for fun practice for continents when we get to it. *Favorites baggie: We are kicking off opinion writing next week. Students are bringing home a baggie with directions for what to put inside and return on Monday January 13th. *Reading: We will be comparing and contrasting characters and stories. We will be using a lot of mentor texts with familiar and new characters that we will be finding similarities and differences. *Phonics: We will reviewing diagraphs and welded parts in words as we practicing reading and spelling words based on what we have been learning. We will also be talking about suffixes- specifically -s, -es, -ed, and -ing. We will learn about base words and how suffixes are added to the end of words and how it can change the meaning. *Writing: We are working on New Year’s resolutions and goals this week. We will also be learning about fact and opinion and how they are different in preparation for our opinion unit. *Social Studies: We will be talking about goals and what goals we may have in the second half of 1st grade. *Math: We will be learning about missing addends and how we can relate addition and subtraction to find missing numbers. Ex 7+ _ = 10 We only have a few more days until our Thanksgiving break. We hope to stay healthy for the rest of the week. As far as illnesses around school, I was told about 2 stomach viruses and one case of strep specifically in our room. The students are doing a really good job of washing hands and cleaning up around our classroom.
*If you are interested in placing a Scholastic book order, you can do so through the website I sent home last week. I will place the whole order on Friday. *There is no school next week November 25th-29th due to the Thanksgiving break. This week in 1st grade… *Social Studies: We continue to learn about Benjamin Franklin by doing research and creating ChatterPix presentations to show what we know. *Math: We have been practicing problem solving and are doing place value as well. We are reviewing tens and ones in 2 digit numbers and learning the value that these digits may have. *Reading: We have been doing main idea and details. We have been using nonfiction and fiction books to practice this comprehension skill. *Phonics: We continue to work on blends in words- r blends, l blends, and s blends. *Writing: We have finished our first nonfiction informational book on animals. We look forward to picking another topic and also learning to write how to (step by step) books after the break. *Health: We are talking about healthy foods this week and the best ways to have a healthy plate. *Wednesday November 6th is the last day to bring in Treats for the Troops! If you have any leftover Halloween candy you are looking to get rid of, they have a donation box in the front lobby.
*Veteran’s Day Celebration at Tritt Elementary Do you know a Veteran that plays a role in life of a Tritt Student? We would like to invite them to join us in a celebration program in their honor on November 11th from 8:15am-9:00am. You will hear from our Boy Scouts, Tritt Tiger Chorus, and a Keynote Speaker! We are looking forward to thanking the Veterans for their service. If your Veteran is able to join us, we ask that you fill out this online RSVP by November 7th to ensure we have enough space set up for all of our guests. There will be a light breakfast following the program. In addition, we are compiling a picture slideshow of all Veterans represented at Tritt Elementary. If you have a picture of a Veteran, whether they are able to attend our event or not, please send it to [email protected]. Please note in your email who is in the picture, their branch of service, and their relationship to Tritt Elementary. For example, Commander Jonathan Ford, Navy, Father of Griffin and Rachel Ford.
