What's going on at Tritt....
*Wednesday is Donut day. Donuts can be purchased in the cafeteria before the first bell for $1. All proceeds to benefit the Rally foundation. *Fall break is next week September 25th- September 29th. There will be no school. *Friday is Walk or bike to school day. There are several locations that staff is walking from in Chimney Springs and the YMCA. All walkers need to be at locations by 6:55 am. *Homework folders due this Friday. *PTA reflections contest. A purple flyer went home last week with detailed information about Reflections contest. All entries due to the ILC by October 20th . https://www.pta.org/programs/Reflections.cfm?ItemNumber=2898 What's going on in 1st grade.... *Reading- We are working on story elements in reading- character, setting, problem, and solution. We will be working on retelling details from read alouds as well. We continue to practice reading words and spelling words with diagraphs. *Math- We continue to learn and practice addition strategies. We are using math centers and games to practice skills. We have practicing part-part- whole, making a ten, drawing pictures, and counting on with a number line and dots. *Social Studies- We are working on our address and where we are on the map. We are talking about our country, state, city, and home address. *Writing- We are working on sequencing events in our narrative writing. We are learning how to use temporal words such as First, Next, Then, and Last. We are also working on adding details in our writing. Don't forget to send back the picture page of small moments if you haven't already done so. Please let me know if you need another one. We made it through testing last week! It was a long three days but we all did well:) Due to the weather, our week this week will also be affected. We will be working hard to keep ourselves on track for the rest of the quarter. Library books are due back this week. We will work on making up our ILC lesson. Share time during our class meetings have been great for the students. They have brought things in or just have a 'tell' that they share with the class. It has been great for listening and speaking skills. The students are really working on asking questions. *Reading- This week we will continue working on diagraphs in phonics. We will practice spelling and reading words with ch-, sh-, th-, wh- at the beginning and end of words. We will also work on answering questions in reading and working on character, setting, main idea, and details. *Writing- Don't forget to send back the pictures for our small moments page for our writing folder that I sent home last week. *Math- We are beginning to work on addition and strategies that we can use. We have started with the part/part/whole strategy and number bonds. We will also work on making a ten this week. *Social Studies: We will begin working on where we are on the map. Working on knowing our country, state, and city and practicing our address. *STEM- I plan on us working on our landform STEM challenge this week. *We have CoGAT testing on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning. We will be testing first thing in the morning. Our specials time will be different on these days. *Reading-We will continue to work on diagraphs in Phonics this week. We will also be working on character, setting, and details in reading comprehension. *Math- We will begin learning addition vocabulary and strategies this week. *Social Studies- We will be wrapping up our study of landforms this week. *STEM- We will be starting a STEM challenge creating landforms. We will be using different materials to create our projects. We are looking for empty containers such as yogurt or applesauce cups that we can use. If you have any that you can send in over the next week, please do. *Writing- We are working on small moments in writing and writing about our Labor Day weekend. A few things...
*Thank you all for your Hats to Harvey donations! We have raised over $3000 so far:) *Next Monday is Labor Day and there is no school. *Homework folders went home today. Students will keep them and return them at the end of the month. There is a reading log that students can use to color a star for each book they read this month. *Scholastic book orders- I sent home a Scholastic book order today. Our class code is on the flyer. If you are interested in ordering books, you can access this site, Scholastic, and place your orders online. I will submit all orders next Friday September 8th. When they come in I will send them home with your child. I try to do class orders a dew times a year and then we also have Scholastic book fairs at the school. |
